Join SPACE at Jantar Mantar 21st December,2013, 9:30 am to 1:00 pm to participate in Project Paridhi, a hands on science activity to measure the circumference of the earth using simple backyard tools following the ancient Eratosthanes method. Or conduct it at schools using innovative gnomons.
The December solstice occurs on December 21st 2013. The South Pole of the earth will be tilted toward the Sun, which will have reached its southernmost position in the sky and will be directly over the Tropic of Capricorn at 23.44 degrees south latitude. This is the first day of winter in the northern hemisphere and the first day of summer in the southern hemisphere.
